The Foundation receives its income from the NSW Public Purpose Fund and is obliged to ensure its grants benefit the people of NSW and will not fund projects that primarily benefit residents of other states or countries.

The meeting co–chairs are Dr Phil Perkins and Dr Elliot Gilbert. The “Neutrons and Food” workshop seeks to identify the future scientific needs in the application of neutron scattering to Food Science. The findings will help neutron facilities to further adapt their infrastructure to the requirements of the wider scientific community and to enable potential users to develop collaborations with neutron scattering researchers. The application of neutron scattering to food–based systems is still in its infancy but has significant potential to understand the complex relationship between food structure, processing, rheology, nutrition, food quality and security. Opportunities for the application of neutron scattering in food science has recently been reviewed (Trends in Food Science and Technology (2009), 20 p.576–586) and is <a href="http://www.nbi.ansto.gov.au/neutronsandfood/documents/TIFS_preprint.pdf">available for download</a>. The research supported by the Fellowship must be carried out at institutions in Australia.  Applicants for these Fellowships must meet criteria of eligibility and excellence. For postdoctoral fellowship applicants, Australian citizens who are engaged in cardiovascular disease research overseas may apply for a fellowship to return to Australia to continue their cardiovascular disease research at an Australian Research Administering Institute. These Fellowships are available to medical and science graduates who have completed a MD or PhD award within the last five years. true Sir Zelman Cowen Universities Fund Fellowships in Support of Academic Exchange between the University of Sydney & Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The University of Sydney and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem have in place an agreement to encourage mutual visits by academic staff. Visits by post-doctoral fellows and academic staff of the University of Sydney to the Hebrew University of Jerusalem will be considered for support from the Sir Zelman Cowen Universities Fund. Applications for support are invited from all disciplines and will be ranked on academic merit. Preference will be given to projects in the area of Semitic Studies. It is expected that the visits will have a specific academic purpose and that their duration will not exceed 2 semesters. Shorter visits are encouraged. When an application is approved, the level of support will normally include a return economy airfare and some contribution to living expenses. These fellowships are offered twice annually. Closing date for applications is 31 March and 31 October each year.
