The Gritton Scholarships are awarded to candidates enrolling full time in a higher degree by research and are intended to promote the knowledge and study of chemistry in relation to industry and agriculture, including chemistry connected with electrical engineering, metallurgical chemistry and chemistry in its application to mining and the winning treatment of minerals and natural products of the soil.


They are open to graduates of universities who are members of the Association of Commonwealth Universities, graduates of any country who are citizens of a Commonwealth country or Australian permanent residents.  In addition, the Gritton Medalist Award is awarded to a University of Sydney Medalist who is enrolled full-time in a PhD project. The award is normally made in the second year of candidature and is for one year only. 

Amount awarded:

The scholarship is valued at the same rate as the Australian Postgraduate Award ($24,653 in 2013).The value of the award is determined annually.
