The Australian Pain Society (APS) is a Multidisciplinary Society whose charter is to improve the education, research and development, diagnosis and treatment of all forms of pain. Australian Pain Relief Association (APRA) is a registered charity and works closely with the APS to support education and research in pain.
The Australian Pain Society and Australian Pain Relief Association have awarded twelve 3-year PhD scholarships over the last fourteen years. Another Scholarship sponsored by the Australian Pain Society will be offered from July 2013 – July 2016. The research project can be related to any aspect of the mechanisms, diagnosis or treatment of acute or chronic pain.
The applicant must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident, and the applicant and his/her supervisor must be members of the APS. The award is for full-time research leading to a PhD or equivalent.
The stipend is $23,000 per annum and the APS will also provide additional financial support enabling the candidate to attend the Society’s Annual Scientific Meeting.

Submission: The completed and signed application plus one copy must be submitted to the Scholarships Office, Level 5, Jane Foss Russell Building, University of Sydney by the internal closing date of Tuesday 26 March 2013. Please note that you must attach a certified copy of your academic transcript and a CV with your application (and copy).

Supervisor, Head of Department, Referee Forms: You must supply these people with a copy of your completed application and ask them to complete the relevant form and forward it directly to the APS.
